You might have missed our 2010 "Kick-Off" meeting in January but there are many great opportunities ahead. The program details for our February meeting have now been finalized and we will not be disappointed. Jane Brannon, Executive Director, Knoxville Affiliate Susan G. Komen for the Cure, will be our special guest. Jane wants to share a video with us entitled "WE WILL" and talk about Komen Knoxville and its work in our community. ACW has supported Komen Knoxville for many years by sponsoring "Race for the Cure" teams. You will not want to miss hearing from their #1 representative just how those much needed funds are used in our community.
Last fall, ACW commissioned the design of a special T-shirt to support breast cancer research and "Race for the Cure". Dig in your drawer, find that shirt and be sure to wear it to our meeting on the 11th! Don't have one yet? No problem, contact Cara Knapp knapp06@gmail.com to make arrangements to get yours for just $20.00. Click here to see our shirt design. Or maybe you have an official "Race for the Cure" shirt or maybe you have a shockingly pink shirt, sweater or other apparel that you want to wear. Anything goes as long as it is pink!
Come . . . bring your appetite for the fabulous meal that Rothchild always provides. Our menu for February includes mixed fancy spring greens with grape tomatoes, cucumber, shaved carrots and cheese; herb crusted pork loin served with parsley potatoes and steamed veggie medley; freshly baked yeast rolls and red velvet cake for dessert. Beverages included are coffee, decaf and tea and the cost is still just $15.00 for the meal (ACW picks up the rest!).
As always, thanks for your support of Associated Construction Women. During these tough economic times, the construction industry has struggled, perhaps, more than any other. Your continued support is valuable to the other members of this organization and to the construction community that we live in.
Do not delay! Get your RSVP in today. Contact Ragena Smith at rsmith@marvinconcepts.com to make your reservation no later than Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Rothchild Catering is located in Ten Mile Center at 8807 Kingston Pike in Knoxville - phone number is 691-0103. ACW's Blue Print Classes will start their Winter session on Thursday, February 25 running through Thursday, April 1. Held at the AGC office at 3306 Ragsdale Ave, the classes will be held for 6 consecutive Thursday evenings, running from 6-9 pm. Instructors are from McCarty, Holsaple, McCarty and Studio Four Design Architecture Group and all materials and books are furnished for students.
The classes are open to all interested men and women and are particularly suited for those in the construction industry. The Basic course covers introduction to terms in prints as well as solutions to math problems frequently encountered when reading construction documents. The Advanced course covers details and the various disciplines routine in building construction, such as mechanical, electrical and structural systems.
The course is designed to give the maximum amount of information in the shortest amount of time to those employed to build or bid from blue prints. Subcontractors and those who work for them would benefit from the course as well. The Basic course is $175 and the Advanced course is $200.
